The 80s kissing fruit lip gloss that was so gross but we absolutely loved it | Kidspot

Do you remember that sticky feeling?

Over at Kidspot, we love nothing more than a trip down memory lane. And we know you do too.

We get all nostalgic when we think about Friday nights at the local video store (sorry kids, you'll never know that feeling!) and when we remember our favourite toys growing up like Itty Bitty Bins and this adorable glow worm.

But what about the make-up we absolutely obsessed over as tweens and teens?

Cast your minds back to your days in primary school when you had a crush on the token grade hottie hoping he would notice you with some shiny lips and a sweet, lingering smell coming from your face.

Yes, you'll remember the range of 'kissing gloss' then!

The lip gloss was known for the rolling ball applicator and various flavours to choose from - including strawberry, grape, cherry, orange... and I think I also recall an apricot flavour. But I'm a little old and can't remember that far back.. so don't quote me on that!

What I DO know is that they were a cult favourite for anyone growing up in the 80s and early 90s and usually found in chemists or sometimes our beloved Granny May's.

"They were sticky and smelled gross and naturally I harassed my mum to get me the entire set," laughed Kidspot writer Nama.

"Oh yes! I remember those. I can still smell them," Kidspot reader Chrystie shared. "I had the strawberry flavour and my sister had the grape."

"They had such a fake smell but I loved them... didn't help with me kissing any of my many crushes though..." another reader added.

But just like the video stores, this is something the younger generation has no idea about - and it's sad to think that they will never appreciate how sticky our lips were growing up before better lip gloss options like Lip Smackers came about.

"I have literally no idea what those are, but I can just imagine how horrible they smelled," a, erm, younger colleague shared.

"Same... I have no idea what these are. I only remember Lip Smackers."

Kids these days, ey?
