Queen Elizabeth’s Lipstick Shade Is Closely Guarded Secret (At 96!): What We Know So Far
Queen Elizabeth was dressed casually for her surprise appearance at the Windsor Horse Show on Friday, but she didn’t go without her signature beauty look.
The 96-year-old monarch stood in her Range Rover, watching her horse Balmoral Leia win first place, her bright smile accentuated by pink lipstick.
On her birthday last month, the Queen went for a drive around her Sandringham estate, wearing a vibrant shade of lipstick.
While we don’t know the specific shade, we do know that Elizabeth Arden is a part of Queen Elizabeth’s cosmetics collection, which has a Royal Warrant for nearly 60 years thanks to a tight collaboration with the monarch’s senior dresser and in-house designer Angela Kelly. She’s said to like their Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick, which comes in seven different colours.
Clarins, which also has a Royal Warrant, could be responsible for the makeup. The monarch is reported to have commissioned the French cosmetics manufacturer to make a special crimson lipstick for her to wear on her Coronation Day in 1953 — and it had to last for three hours!
The Queen has refined the technique of retouching without a mirror over the previous seven decades, in addition to understanding just what shade best fits her. Despite the grandeur of the occasion, she has been seen removing a lipstick from her handbag and reapplying it after supper or before leaving an event.
On Friday, Queen Elizabeth made her first public appearance since attending the Service of Thanksgiving in honour of her late husband, Prince Philip, on March 29.
“She was in great spirits,” an observer at the horse show tells. “People she knows in the horse world were being brought to her to talk to her at the window. You can see she is in really good form.”
The Queen was driven to the main arena later that morning and was observed walking slowly to a lift, helped by a walking stick. She then proceeded to her place in the grandstand, which was near to her son Prince Edward.
Lady Louise Windsor, her great-granddaughter, rode by in the saddle of Prince Philip’s carriage as she led a parade through the arena, giving her a special treat.
